Pionus Profile
|
|
Pionus Parrots are held
in high esteem for their wonderfully calm personalities. They
are not inclined to nipping or biting ; they are lovers , not
fighters! Pionus vocalizations are generally quiet and kept to quiet
chattering, however they can let loose with a long-winded
"caw-caw" a few times a day and it is loud, though not in the
decibel range of the larger parrot. They are a stocky bird of approx.
9" and require a fair size cage ( 30" x 36" x 48" )
and a diet of fresh foods, pellets and a little seed. They adore peanuts.
Pionus are quite neat birds and do not feel compelled to fling their food
about. Their talking abilities range from poor to moderate and they love
to whistle long ditties! Overall, their even temperament, lack of
extreme loudness and inquisitive and calm natures make them a
delightful companion bird.
